Miller Creek Mine
 
Miller Creek Mine, in Knox County, Ind., shipped approximately 1.5 million tons of stoker and steam coal in 2007, which was trucked to various industrial customers.
 
Miller Creek's Knox Pit began shipments in 2005 and is expected to produce 1.8 million tons per year. It employs approximately 145 employees. The Knox Pit reserves were acquired from Lexington Coal Company in March of 2005. The mine has 30 million tons of recoverable coal reserves.
 
In 2003, the Peabody President's Safety Award was presented to Miller Creek Mine for their outstanding safety record. Miller Creek continues to be one of the safest operations in the company.
 
Miller Creek Mine is operated by Black Beauty Coal, the largest coal producer in the Illinois Basin. Black Beauty is a subsidiary of St. Louis-based Peabody Energy, the world's largest private-sector coal company, with 2007 sales of 238 million tons and $4.6 billion in revenues. Its coal products fuel approximately 10 percent of all U.S. electricity and more than 2 percent of worldwide electricity. The company is serving global coal demand from electricity generators and steelmakers, and is growing to serve new global customers and emerging Btu Conversion markets.
