TWENTYMILE COAL COMPANY
Peabody's Twentymile Mine near Oak Creek, Colo., is one of the largest underground mines in America. In 2007, the mine shipped nearly 8 million tons of high-Btu, low sulfur steam coal to customers throughout the Midwest and Southwest. The mine also serves a growing export customer base, fueling largely utilities as far away as Italy.
Twentymile Mine continues to invest in its operations to meet evolving customer needs. The mine's recently installed, state-of-the-art longwall mining system has achieved a new performance benchmark of 1 million tons per month, and the mine recently ramped up a new 1400-ton-per-hour preparation plant that is the largest of its kind west of the Mississippi River.
