MIDWEST OPERATIONS
Peabody's founder and namesake gained a foothold in the industry in 1883 by plying the streets of Chicago with a wagon full of coal. Today, Peabody's Midwest operations include mines in Indiana and Illinois operated by our affiliates and subsidiaries. We have a large reserve position and sold more than any other Midwestern coal producer in 2008.
Coal is shipped primarily to electricity generators and to industrial customers for power generation.
