Somerville North and South Complex
Somerville Mining Complex is comprised of Somerville South and Somerville North mines, two surface operations located in Gibson and Warrick counties in Indiana. In 2013, the complex shipped a total of 3 million tons of medium sulfur coal to a variety of electricity generating and industrial customers, including Duke Energy, Indianapolis Power & Light, ALCOA, Louisville Gas & Electric and East Kentucky Power Co-op.
Both mines are dozer, and truck and shovel operations that operate on two shifts per day year-round. The mines have 9 million tons of recoverable reserves remaining.
Somerville South and North mines are operated by United Minerals Co. LLC and are affiliated with Peabody Energy.
