Burton Mine

Burton Mine is located in Queensland’s Bowen Basin and produces hard and semi-hard coking and thermal coals. The surface mine achieved 2013 sales of 2.1 million tons.

Burton provides direct employment for approximately 600 people, including Peabody personnel, Thiess (who operates the mine) and contractors involved with the Burton Widening Expansion project.

The mine produces medium-volatile bituminous hard and semi-hard coking and thermal coals, with customers in Japan, Taiwan, India, Europe and South America. The coal is shipped through the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, near Mackay. Production from Burton commenced in November 1996. Peabody acquired 95 percent of the mine in April 2004.
