Eaglefield Mine

Eaglefield Mine is a surface mine located at the northern end of the Bowen Basin, producing high-quality hard coking coal. The mine achieved 2013 sales of 1.3 million tons.

Eaglefield has been operating since 2003 and was acquired by Peabody in 2004. The mining lease of 3,341 hectares is shared with North Goonyella mine. Eaglefield and North Goonyella mining operations share a Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP), tailings co-disposal storage, rail loop and rail load-out facility, and an integrated water management system.

Eaglefield Mine is operated under contract by Macmahon, utilising conventional truck and excavator mining methods. Coal is processed through the shared CHPP, then railed to the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, south of Mackay. The coal is exported to steel makers predominantly in Japan, Asia, India and Europe.

At the end of 2012, the mine has operated incident-free for more than 41 months, and employs approximately 220 people.
