North Goonyella Mine

North Goonyella Mine is an underground longwall coal mine located at the northern end of the Bowen Basin, producing a premium-quality, high-strength coking coal. The mine sold 1.7 million tons in 2013.

Mining commenced at North Goonyella in 1994, and Peabody acquired the operation in April 2004. The premium-quality, medium-volatile, highstrength coking coal from North Goonyella has exceptional coking properties. It is used to make a strong and low-reactivity coke in a wide variety of coke oven blends. Consistent quality has ensured strong demand from a diverse range of major steel makers in Japan, Asia, India and Europe. Coal is exported through the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, south of Mackay.

The mining lease of 3,341 hectares is shared with Eaglefield surface mine. North Goonyella
and Eaglefield mining operations share a Coal Handling and Preparation Plant.
