Wambo Mine Complex

The Wambo Mine Complex is located in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales and produces thermal and pulverized coal injection (PCI) coal. Wambo is a combined surface and underground mine operating in the upper Hunter Valley since 1969. In 2013, Wambo Open-Cut sold 2.6 million tons of coal and North Wambo Underground sold 3.5 million tons of coal.

The complex produces thermal coal, which is railed to Newcastle Port, and PCI coal, which is railed to domestic customers. The main export markets for Wambo coal are Japan, Korea and China. Coal from Wambo is shipped through both Port Waratah Coal Services and Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group facilities.

Peabody acquired the Wambo Complex operations in 2006 and holds a 75 percent stake.
