Gillette Festival of Trees

Peabody Energy’s Gillette, Wyo. office sponsored the 2012 Gillette Gillette Festival of TreesFestival of Trees. The annual event, which is a live auction, celebrated 21 years of raising funds for LifeLine Emergency Response Systems, a medical alert and dispensing service for senior citizens in need. This year, Peabody’s Gillette office submitted an entry that won two first place awards and raised $15,000 for the cause.


Gillette Helps Raise Readers

Peabody Energy’s Gillette Office is a proud sponsor of the Raising Readers organization whose mission is to encourage parents to read to their young children by providing new books during child health care visits. Gillette Helps Raise ReadersThe Gillette Office funded the organization’s book fest where employees set up a booth and gave away items such as safety coloring books, safety flashers for kids to wear while trick or treating, and fire extinguishers. Peabody’s partnership with Raising Readers enabled the organization to distribute 4,000 age-appropriate books to children throughout northeast Wyoming.


Wyoming Environmental Stewardship Day Proclaimed

Wyoming Governor Matt Mead proclaimed July 12, 2012 as Wyoming Environmental Stewardship Day. Each year, Wyoming Environmental Stewardship Day marks the date of the Environmental Stewardship Tour hosted by the Wyoming Stock Growers Association (WSGA) and the Wyoming Department of Agriculture (WDA). The annual event showcases that year’s $10,000 Leopold Conservation Award, sponsored by Peabody Energy and other companies.


Peabody Employees “Cook-Off” for a Cause

Peabody Employees Cook-Off for a CauseA number of Powder River Basin employees participated in an annual chili cook-off fundraiser. The event raised funds for two Gillette, Wyo., charities: The YES House, which provides services to at-risk youth and their families, and the Council of Community Services, which provides assistance to low-income families and manages a homeless shelter.


Energy Resource Center, University of Wyoming

Energy Resource Center, University of Wyoming Peabody has engaged state and industry leaders in a unique partnership with the University of Wyoming to develop renewable energy alternatives using Powder River Basin coal. Support from Peabody led to the creation of the Peabody Energy Clean Coal Technology Laboratory in the University’s new Energy Resource Center. Peabody Powder River Basin Senior Vice President of Operations Scott Durgin and Director of Sustainability Wanda Burget joined University and state leaders to break ground on the state-of-the-art research and collaboration facility, which is anticipated for completion during 2012.
