Coppabella Mine

The Coppabella Mine is an open-cut mine located 160 kilometers west of Mackay that produces low-volatile pulverized coal injection (PCI) coal for export markets.

Peabody Energy has a 73 percent interest in Coppabella through its Peabody Energy Australia PCI (formerly Macarthur Coal Limited) subsidiary.  Coppabella is a dragline and pre-strip operation and is managed and operated by Peabody. 

Coppabella is recognized as being one of the fastest coal mine developments in Australia and has a workforce of approximately 550 people, including contractors.

Coppabella sold 3.1 million tons in 2013.

Rehabilitiation

At Coppabella, rehabilitation is undertaken as soon as possible after mining occurs. In 2011, the total area under rehabilitation at Coppabella was 321 hectares, with early results indicating that the ecosystems in rehabilitated areas are robust and diverse.

Community

Community programs and events supported by Coppabella in 2011 included the RACQ Central Queensland Rescue helicopter, support for the Coppabella State School and the Nebo Bushman’s Carnival.
